Prilhofer Consulting started the project together with BREMER AG with detailed requirement analyses for the reinforcement production, the mesh processes of the reinforcement cages as well as the investigation of existing halls and the possible hall extensions taking into account the space limitations at the location in Paderborn.
A major challenge was, on the one hand, to accommodate the plant technology in the areas that could be generated in the planning. And on the other hand, to create logistics that make it possible to temporarily store the prefabricated reinforcement components such as flat reinforcement mats, steel bars, stirrups and automatically provided cage segments and to provide them just in time and largely automatically when they are called off from the meshing stations in the two meshing halls. A concept that BREMER initially considered too radical, involving the partial demolition of the two mesh halls and the addition of a new, partly two-storey hall, was ultimately unanimously approved by BREMER and formed the basis for the completion of the tender documents for the plant engineering.
The result is a level of automation for the production of the preliminary products of the reinforcement cages as complete kits that is unprecedented for structural parts. This also includes their automatic storage and provision at the reinforcement mesh stations by means of automatic driverless transport systems for reinforcement stirrups and an automated pallet warehouse for steel bars, reinforcement meshes and cage segments. A high degree of automation combined with coherent logistics, spatial separation of the noise-generating production of pre-products and the wire mesh workstations, as well as full data continuity from reinforcement planning to the finished product organised by a higher-level control system. All of this enables BREMER to optimise the planning, efficiency and traceability of the reinforcement production for the large number and quantity of precast reinforced concrete parts to be produced every day.
Over a period of about two years, BREMER had looked intensively at the market and had technical solutions and concepts developed with all important plant manufacturers for machines for reinforcement production. In this process, however, no conclusive overall concept could be achieved that satisfactorily combined plant technology, material flow logistics and utilisation of the inventory.
The involvement of Prilhofer Consulting was therefore a logical step in order to analyse all aspects in an overall view and to design a customised, sustainable concept for the further development of the site.
The independent expertise in the process of tendering, awarding and project management were equally essential for BREMER AG for a milestone project of this magnitude.
